Farmall 350

What horsepower should i expect out of a farmall 350 that has fire crater pistons and lp head? I am hoping for 53hp

Where are you measuring horse power , crank, drawbar,pto, or belt? This will make a difference .

I don't know the answer, but I'm sure I'm not the only one that's curious why you're trying to get more horsepower out of it?

For pulling?

At times like this, we need a highly respected chief engineer to remind us that what you think you need and what is possible and practical may not lie within the same universe:

"I'm givin' 'er all she's got, Captain!"

The eventual results of "more power than designed for", equals failures of the next weakest parts (clutch, transmission, axles, pinion gears, etc), especially if there are added stresses due to worn components that aren't addressed before adding more power.

If time and money are no object, I'm sure you could design and build an "H" that would produce and handle 100hp, just for fun, and when it broke, you could redesign and build it heavier, with driveline parts from say a 1466. But if you're an ordinary mortal that just needs a little more HP for doing farm tasks, why not just get a bigger tractor, like an M? If your going to pull with it, sure, you can bore, use a stroker crank, modified cam, and push it hard, but expect it to have a life expectancy of a race car drive line (fully rebuilt between every use).

With these old tractors - it's often much cheaper and easier to buy the right tractor vs. trying to make the wrong one something it isn't.

Generally speaking - it's hard to think of an example where you'd need the power of a larger tractor, but NOT the weight/traction of it.

And to Wellworn's point - here you're talking about giving the 350 almost the power of 560 - something that didn't work too well for the IH engineers upgrading the 450!

Not suggesting you're doing something wrong, just trying to say be careful when modifying for power. It can get real expensive and still end in failure.
