Farmall 400 water pump

Just swapped engines in a 400. The water pump started leaking about 10 minutes after running. I did switch the fan belt. Is it possible I messed up something when I loosened and tightened that gland nut, or is it a safe bet the pump is bad and I need to replace. If so, is there a good place to buy one at a decent price. I checked with the local IH and they are pretty pricey there.

tighten the packing. its the brass nut in front of the pump on the shaft. if its screwed in all the way get some packing material and put in there. presuming the brgs. are ok. the belt tightening pulley has nothing to do with the leak. that is why the big adjustable pliars are called water pump pliars, because the were used to tighten the packing on old engines water pumps. I like to use the proper wrench.
