Farmall 450 Wiring Issue

I am currently rewiring my 450. I created my own harness. I have checked and double checked everything and it seems to be wired correctly. But I have no lights. Every time I turn the light switch everything goes dead. I have power to one side of the ammeter but none coming out the other when this happens. Disconnect the battery and wait a few minutes and hook the battery back up and then I get power coming out both posts of the ammeter. Has anyone ran into this before? I know enough about electrical to get by but am no means an expert. Thanks for the help.

Replace the amp gauge. Just had a ford tractor with same issues. Power on one side of amp gauge but not the other

I agree with MrFred, the extra load of the lights probably is heating up something in the amp gauge and it is loosing connection, inside the gauge. One thing you might check is are there nuts on the studs that tighten down against to back of the gauge case to hold them steady? If so you might try to take the gauge out and check to see if they are snug. On second thought maybe it does not matter the chair that holds the gauge in should probably pull on the stud hard enough to keep it in contact inside the gauge.

Any time an Amp gauge looses connection through it it is toast. Inside is a conductor that passes 99.9% over the amps. The meter movement senses that tiny remainder to move the needle. It is broken
