Farmall 460

I've been giving some thought to putting a 291 engine out of a 756 in my 460. I know I will have to change the front cover to fit it in. Any other problems I might run into ?, like stearing shaft ? oil filter housing? Im going to run it in 3-3 1/2 mph class, what weight class do you think it will do best in? will I be able to get it hooked up well to the ground. Thanks

Put a 301 in my 460 change out front and rear motor plates.carb faces wrong direction and the oil filter base from 460 for steering shaft room.exhaust needs a little off set for existing hole in hood.I used the combine carb which faced back the right direction.

I dont mean to hijack the thread, but it seemed to be in the same topic. So will the front covers that it(301) is currently wearing, even in a 856 still work to mount it in a 460? I guess I should have been more clear

The front motor mounts are part of the front covers and they mount differently to the frame rails. You could most likely redrill the rails but I would prefer to use the correct cover. Any other questions just ask I will try to help. Lee

lee460 front covers won,t swap from diesel to gas because diesel injection pump mounting? rear cover won't work ? starter mount wrong? Thanks for help. Jerry

Jerry: Thanks for agreeing with what I said about the front covers, but the rear adapter plate on the gas and diesel are the same and the bolt pattern on the starters are the same. Thanks Lee

Jerry: I see you was referring to the 756 to the 460. I was referring to just the 460 gas and diesel. My bad! Lee

I will just add that I used the crankshaft from a diesel 282 in the conversion I did on a 560 Diesel to gas 263. I also used the flywheel and the starter from the Diesel. Bolted right up. The basic block is the same casting between 460 gas and diesel through the 560 gas and diesel. I am not sure about the front cover as I did not have to change it on the donor engine. It may be the same all the way up to the 301 but I cannot confirm it. I needed different tubes for the air intakes.
