Has anyone used O-rings instead of piston rings on the rack. Reference number #1

It's so much work to get to it, I fail to see the reasoning behind wanting to use anything but genuine CaseIH parts even if they cost significantly more. You have your best chance of a successful repair, anything else is just a guess.

And no, I have not tried to use regular orings in place of the factory parts in this application. Anywhere else I have tried to use regular orings in place of factory parts on an IH tractor, has failed miserably.

I would not use o rings but you may be able to use the teflon ring used in later models like 706 etc if grooves would match up.

I guess I will have to Case ih and buy one to see if it would work. It looks like the original rings are limited supply thru Case IH parts

Update: Used the Teflon seal #378651R1 and O-ring part #18438 works well as an substitute for the piston rings they originally used on the rack.
