Farmall 706 hydraulics

I have a farmall 706 that I am trying to figure out the remote valves. I am understanding that this model should have a float position that the hydraulic lever should lock in. I had it hooked to a planter (jd 7000 conservation) for pre season maintenance.When I push down on the lever it will lock and the tractor buzzes like it is making full pressure and it is dead headed. I can push the lever further down and the planter will drop like it's on a true float but the lever will not lock in the float position. According to the planter manual I need to be locked in float for planting. So what do I need to start looking at on the tractor? Or do these models not lock into float?

I also have a 706 but never used the float when planting. I have for the past 20 years used my 1570 or 5230 how ever your lift cylinder on a 7000 should not be pined, when I let the planter down you press wheels set seed depth and I let the frame float. On both my 7000 notill and 7240 no till the cylinder close all the way and there is plenty of room for the planter to float. I get what you are saying but never used the float on tractor.

deepen the cylinder to where u need it and go that way. them levers will lock in position then when it reaches max psi it kicks them out such as lifting or lowering.

It wont kick out of float, and there is an adjustment for how hard or easy it will pop out of the detent. For the original poster, look on the rear of the vale you are using for the small hole in the end of the housing. There is a slotted plug you can turn clockwise for more tension or counterclockwise for less.
