farmall a engine

i have coolant slowly dripping on the end of my sleeves cant tell what side it is coming on, but the two that have leaks also have carbon built up on top of the piston where the other two are clean. i had the head off about a year ago and cleaned them all up replaced the head gasket now what should i do? where is this coming from?????? ugh

I would put some stop leak in it and run it, it will probably seal up. You can spend hundreds of dollars chasing a little leak or you can spend $3 and seal it up.

If your talking about at the bottom of the sleeves then you have sleeve seal o-rings going bad. These are wet sleeve engines with a o-ring at the bottom of the sleeve which do go bad

Can you be more specific? Are you seeing coolant run down the cylinder walls past the pistons or just some dripping off the bottom of the sleeve unable to tell where it's coming from. If it's running down the inside of the cylinder walls, you have cylinder head or head gasket trouble

Well many things come into play. Carb that runs to rich or valve problems etc. Carbon can be caused by poor ignition which can be caused by low compression or many other problems

Leaking at the bottom has nothing to do with tops of the pistons unless those two sleeves are leaking at the top. Is the leak on top or bottom sounds like the issue is either head gasket or the sleeve is leaking at the top in either case you do need to pull those two sleeves to see why they are leaking. I have worked on lots of those engines and never did have a sleeve that leaked on top. Is the lip on the top even with the rest of the sleeves if by some reason two were replaced and don't set with the same height as the rest the head gasket wont seal them tight enough to stop a leak.Use a straight edge across entire block to check the height of all sleeves. They do need to be just a few thous above the block so the head gasket and head will seal them.

i can see coolant dripping off the bottom of the sleeve. cant tell if its from inside or the outside. i cant see any signs on top of the piston other than that the two that are leaking have carbon build up on top of the piston and the two sleeves that are dry the pistons are pretty clean on top. cant see coolant on top of any of them

My vote is the sleeve O-rings. If you pull 2, you might as well do the other 2 as well. If you have it open that far, it is good investment to do all 4. My opinion, my approach.
