Farmall A Front Grille

I took the front grill to my local body shop and he said it would be tough for him to make this look decent. He would have to spend a lot of time and money and he could not promise show quality results. Can I buy a front grille in a parts house? can I buy parts for the grille and put it together myself? What are my options.

You can buy them but for a complete grill they run from $500 to $600.

You can find a good used grille, post a wanted ad in the YT Classified Ads on the left, or Steiner sells them new for $595.00 plus shipping.

It may be that the body shop you went to is busy and isn't looking for more work. Unless your grill is really in bad shape, it shouldn't present a huge problem for a good body man. You might try another shop if there's on in your area. Around here, though, having a pro do the bodywork is still going to cost more than buying replacement sheetmetal. Bodyshops have a lot of overhead, and have to charge accordingly, but you might find a shop that's willing to cut you a good deal if you don't have a rigid timetable to get the job done. Better to have a bodyman working and bringing in $20/hr than to have him standing around or pushing a broom and not making any money for the shop.
