farmall a hard shift

Hmm, that's interesting. How does the fluid look? Is it very thick or is it milky looking? I'm thinking you need to pull the top off of the transmission and have a look inside. Then you could tell if the shift linkage is moving hard or the gears. In either case 1st and 2nd gear move all the same things so it's confusing why only 1st gear is a problem. Removing the top of the transmission isn't to bad a job.

What do you mean by "hard to get into 1st gear?"

There are about 9 different ways it could be "hard to get into 1st gear." So please, describe what you do to put the tractor in 1st gear, and describe what happens when you do.

As far as an easy tix, not all fixes are easy. There may not be an easy fix for your tractor. There is only one thing to adjust, which is the clutch pedal free play. If you have more than zero clutch pedal free play and less than the recommended amount, adjusting the clutch pedal free play won't make any difference.

Unfortunately the only guaranteed "easy fix" is to sell the tractor, but I expect that is not the solution you want to hear. So I won't suggest it.

First off what does the fluid look like. If it is milky looking drain it and fill with ATF and run it a little then drain that after it shifts better. If that does help then your going to have to pull the top cover off and have a look see
