What colors was the Factory correct for starters and generators on a 1944 and 1947 Farmall A

Red when the tractor was assembled from the factory. IH did not make their starters and generators. Replacements came from Delco and were black, IH left them black when sold from their dealers, or anywhere else you can buy them.

OEM/'factory' is RED. Replacements were often black.However,most 'restorers' paint em black because they look sharp.

They were all black when installed but they were installed before the tractor was painted. When they left the paint room, other than a few items masked off, everything on the tractor was red. That included the wiring harnesses and hoses. Radiators were installed black and were not masked off but no effort was made to paint the cores. The sides and the top and bottom tanks were painted. There would be some overspray around the edges of the radiator cores that would be red but otherwise they were black.
