Farmall A Restoration

Good Day, Recently I asked you guys how to troubleshoot the ignition system and thanks to you guys I have SPARK. (new cap, rotor condensor and points) Now I am going to change the engine oil and radiator fluid. The tractor is a 1945 farmall A. It has been stored in a shed for the last 20+ years. I was able to loosen up the motor and she spins over nice now. I have purchased an oil filter from the local Case dealer and it looks like the correct one. What kind of oil should I use and what kind of radiator fluid should I use. The cap on the radiator is not the correct one and it will not hold pressure, do I need the correct cap just to get the tractor started. Is there anything I should be concerned about before I try and start the tractor?

THANKS

THe oil should be a straight 30wt cheap oil (it will be in there only a few hours) then when running and operational change to a 10-40 gasoline oil (same as a car) or 15-40 diesel oil. (and a new filter)
The radiator should be filled with water at first, just to avoid the issue of wasting antifreeze if it leaks. THen 50/50 mix of regular (or animal friendly) antifreeze.
The cap is not pressurized, so it needs no seal. it is a thermosiphon system and has no water pump. They work just fine, do not worry. Fill to about 1/5" from the cap seat. It may come out some, but that is OK. Get a manual (this site sells them) binder books, and the dealer. Ebay also often has them. JimN
