Well besides the mag troubles i've been having this other question has been bothering me. the filler tube cap that goes into the valve cover is also a dipstick, but your suppose to use the valves on the side of the engine to check the oil level. Were all the B's like this? or did the original one get lost and the last person that had it just find something that fits.

"--the filler tube cap that goes into the valve cover is also a dipstick--" NO. You check the oil at the valves on the side of the oil pan. Upper full, lower approx 1 qt low. Originally the lower was used to drain the excess fuel that gets into the oil if the engine was designed to run on kerosene or distillate. The C113 in the B never had a dipstick.

Thanks i knew to use the valves on the side, but when i pulled the cap off it wasn't just a cap it was a dipstick so that confused me for a bit.

If the oil level is high enough so a dipstick stuck down in the valve cover will reach it, you've got REAL problems!

I can't recall what the application was, at the moment, but some hydraulic systems had a breather cover that is the same in appearance as the oil fill/breather cap for your valvecover, but had a dipstick dangling blelow them. Someone must have come upon one of those, and jammed it on the valve cover of your "B"!

Ignoring the rust damage, this is the breather cap for a Farmall B....at least the only kind I have ever seen.
