Farmall B

Does anyone have any information on the 4 cyl engine used on International hay balers? I have one that I'm planning to overhaul and put in a Farmall B but need to insure I get the right overhaul kit. Thanks.

It is likely to be either a 113, or 123 CID engine. Either will work well, the only issue I know of might be the crank shaft drilling for the pilot bearing. needed in the tractor, but not the bailer. It can be machined, or the other crank used if it is good. It may have a dipstick for oil checking, and it either has or has not got a place to mount a live hydraulic pump. JimN

You can use a sleeve kit up to 3.125" in either
block whether its a C113 or C123, but if it's a C123 block you can use the 3.250" sleeve kit. There should be a serial number on that block. Look for a flat surface below No1 sparkplug, it should have a number stamped into the block. Hal

The pilot shaft bushing is the same and it does have provision for a hydraulic pump. Thanks for the info. Craig

I had checked the serial number back a couple years ago and was not able to find a kit for it but I do know it has the 3 inch bore piston and the lower sleeve OD is 3 7/16. I would like to go to the larger bore if possible. Craig.

The 3" would allow up to 3.125, some 123 engine blocks were fitted with 3" (If I recall correctly) and those could go to 3.25" JimN

I have a diameter of the sleeve for the A,B & C at the bottom seal at 3.312". For the C123 that diameter of the sleeve is 3.4375" at the bottom
where it seals. The length of the sleeve is 6.875" for the A,B & C. For the C123 block the length should be 7.060". Hal
PS: You need to get the same length sleeves that were removed from the baler engine.

You need to clean that block area where the sleeve seals are installed of all rust or dirt or both. That recessed area in the block where the top of the sleeve sits needs to be cleaned too.
When installing the new sleeves coat the bottom of the sleeve with dish detergent and they will slide into the new seals easily. You may need to a make some metal brackets to keep the sleeves from moving when installing the pistons. Hal

The block has been to the machine shop, vatted and checked and it"s sitting in my garage ready to go. Standard crank has been polished and also ready to go. I just need to make sure I get the correct engine kit. Thanks,,,,Craig

If your sleeves measure 3 7/16" at the seal end
I think your engine is the C123cid engine and you can get kits from this forum by clicking on "sleeve kits" under "Marketplace" to the left of your monitor's screen. Select the Super A1
tractor and the third sleeve kit listed for $406.95 should fit your tractor. This would increase the bore from 3.0 to 3.250". Give them a call and see what they say. Your machine shop can get new bearings. Hal

Okay,,,,lots more problems it seems. Block serial number is 16731, sleeve length is 6-7/8, diameter at seal is 3-7/16, and bore is 3. Doesn't seem that anything on this site will match up. Pistons are 3-1/2 in length and are a 4 ring piston. Any ideas???

That serial number isn't from the SuperA or Super
C since they have 6 digits in their SN. All those tractors A, B & C had the 3 inch pistons when they were new. Federal Mogul gave me the sleeve length sometime ago. They all had the same stroke including the Super A & Super C. I would get the 3.125 inch pistons and the 6 7/8" sleeves. I used this on on a Farmall A and it ran fine. Ask them about their return policy.
I still think they will fit. Hal

I would call a Case/IH dealer and ask them about this block. You said it had a place for mounting a hydraulic pump. The Farmall C had hydraulics
since we had one. The Super A's had the C113 cid
engine too when they first came out and starting
with SN 250001 to 310299 came with the C113 block.
From SN 310300 to 356001 had the C123 block with thicker sleeves and after SN 356001 they had the
C123 engine with a water pump. Hal
PS; They used the C60, C113 and the C123 engine in their balers. Does it have a water pump?

I was reading in the classifieds and saw where someone had a baler engine for sale and they were listing it as a C113 or a C119?? Ever heard of one of those? Craig
