I have a Farmall cub that gas runs out of the carb. I repaced the carb with a brand new one but the gas is still running out. What could be the problem? Thanks, Dean

Hello Dean, welcome to YT! Dirt/crud/metal shavings off fittings getting in between the needle and seat and not allowing it the seat/seal properly. Worthy of mentioning separately is Teflon tape, if you are putting that on the tube nuts please don’t, they do not seal on the threads, strands of that stuff make their way into the needle and seat and cause their share of problems. Do you have the sediment bowl in place under the tank and the round screen that sets in the glass bowl at the top? You will just have to pull the bowl off the carb drop the float and clean out the seat and try again. Sometimes you can get lucky and fix this problem by bring shutting the gas off and running the engine until it runs the carb dry. Then open the gas valve fully open and gently tap on the carburetor, you have to be quick or do both at the same time. This opens the float needle wide open and sometimes flushes out the debris in there, and then it will seal fine.

I cleaned the bowl and screen and put an inline filter when i put on the new carb but it didnt help. Thanks for responding, Dean
Now if you take the bowl(bottom) off the carb and pull the float and needle out open the gas and flush it out a few seconds that will hopefully clear out anything in there and let it seat. This way you don’t disturb the lines or filter so hopefully no new debris comes back and causes this problem. Are you the “hands off” the carb type timid about opening the carb up? There is nothing in there that can give you a problem. As long as you get the needle and float hinge pin back in correctly. This a probably a low dollar chinesium carb. Some of them have a poorly machined needle seat that does not seal well. The only way you can check it out is to open it up and try what I suggested. Bent float that is rubbing on the inside of the bowl can also cause this but those are few and far between instances.

I will try that next and let you know if it works. Thanks, Dean

I would say something has enough pressure to push the needle of the seat to flood it , if that’s the issue , both carburetors act same issue.
Is the vent in the cubs fuel tank working
