Farmall Cub float setting

I know that this has been discussed many times and I've read many posts but I can't get a proper float setting. So I apologize for beating a dead horse but...
I must be misunderstanding how to measure it. I either get flooding or no fuel. I read that it should be 1 and 3/16 inch from the upper housing with the gasket removed. That floods. Another video said 1 and 15/16 from the ceiling, for lack of a better word, but that shuts it off completely. I've tried several settings between and it floods most of the time. When it isn't flooding, it won't fire at all. When it floods, it will fire but not enough to start. I am just going in circles. The float has no detectable holes. Seems fine. I am wondering if it's rubbing against a wall and that's causing issues. I can hear it open and close when it's assembled and I invert the carb. I can blow through when it's upright but not when it's upside down.
Am I measuring correctly when I remove the gasket and measure from there to the other side of the float?

If the carb is sitting as it would on the tractor and the float bowl is empty yes you should be able to blow threw it. Wit it up side down the float moves and in turn closes the float bowl needle seat so you shouldn't be able to blow threw it

In your first pic you measure from the carb base to the top of the float. A hair either like 1/32 “ won’t makes a difference. So whatever spec u have that’s what u use. So basically the float has to sit level when it’s sitting in the needle. I seldom use a float gauge. As long as it’s sitting level it’s good. Look at the arms they must be sitting level. I know on that one it’s hard to tell. U must have other things going on there like the needle and seat. Is the float ok. No gas in it ? Not heavy ?

Forrest asked for a float adjustment just as you would have asked when u took ur carb apart.

Float seems to be ok. Not heavy and no gas in it. So you are saying that the arms on the float shouldn't be bent but should sit horizontal to the carb base?

1-13/32 as per the I-T manual
Measuring with the top upside down and from the housing with the gasket removed, right? That creates the closed setting that would stop the flow of fuel. I've done that setting and it floods. I will try again though. I may have done something stupid the first time.

post a good picture of that carb with the float sitting after u have it adjusted ,..but first post a pick of the needle so i can see how it is .

i see what looks like 1 9/32 in you first pic. that is too high. so u need to bring it down 4/32 or 1/8 "

If you have put a rebuild kit in it the problem could be that the needle that goes in the seat is rubber tipped and if it is you need to put a set in the rubber tip or it will leak till it sets it self. To put a set in the tip you drop the needle into the seat and then tap on it with the handle of a screw driver or other such thing. If you then can see a ring in the rubber tip it has been set

No rubber tip.

ok i checked on the float setting and yes 1 13/32 is correct. i would have liked to see the arms bent closer to the float. but we will go with this. to check the needle if its sealing i sometime install the top half back on the tractor and then open the gas valve and put a light pressure on the float upwards and there sound be no gas leaking. that faster than rigging something up. plus a person can also rig up a clear hose from the bowl drain and hold it up along side the bowl and it will show the gas level. plus there is a float drop to check also. there should be a tap behind the seat to bend also. so ok hold that top half the correct way and let me see the float drop. it should be stopping just of the seated needle. a carb kit will have this info.

and also i see that float pin area is pretty bashed up. that pin should slide nicely threw the float hold down little arms. it looks sloppy to me, might need to just snug them down a bit so the float dont wiggle around but still move up and down easily.
