Farmall Cub

Okay I just added a 1948 cub to my collection this weekend. Payed 200 bucks for it but the motar is stuck in it from sitting outside over the winter. Ive heard of putting kerosene in the cylinders or diesel. What do you think is the best method to use?

The best thing to do is to tear it down. Check the valve seats for alot of rust. Hone and new rings wouldn"t hurt. Check bearings.

If you don"t want to tear it down you should at least pull the head and check the valve seats.

ATF with acetone 50/50 mix might free it up over time.

If it is stuck from just sitting out the winter, I don't think you would have to tear it down. I would put some atf or PB blaster down the plug holes and let it sit for a day or so. Then jack up one side of the rear and try rocking the tire back and fourth with it in high gear. You don't want too much force in case you bend a push rod,it shouldn't be that tight. I just bought a JD H that was stuck for the last 20+ years. I filled the plug holes with PB Blaster and diesel fuel, let it sit for acouple of days, put a big C-clamp on the flywheel with a jack under it and chained the tractor to the trailer and put pressure on it and in a day it was free. I also took the valve train off just in case. I am going to tear the motor apart anyway. Hope this helps

Thanks alot for all your guys help. I have 3 tractors and this is my first one that Ive had to do this so I wasnt quite sure. Thanks again. Zach
