Farmall H 1949

This question is about Engine Oil. I replaced my Engine Oil 2 years ago with SAE 30. I am guessing I have about 30-40 hours on the Farmall, since then. I am mostly familiar with cars and typically you should use a "thicker" Oil in older car engines. I am planning on replacing the Oil and wonder if there is something else I should use then SAE 30? Thanks for the suggestions.

1540 Fleet diesel. What I run in 15 or
more gas diesel tractors trucks combines
ATVs motorcycles lawn mowers... one oil
for all.keep it simple

well just for a run around tractor i dont think it makes much difference what oil you use, for 30-40 hrs in 2 years. if you were workng it in
the field as these tractors used to do from morning to night then i would get concerned.that is why everyone is complaining about spark plugs
fouling cause the tractor dont reach operating temperature. just a bunch of starts and stops and light work. oils nowadays are pretty good.in
my old gas vehicles from years ago i have used castol 20-50 . my 2006 duramax has had nothing but 15-40 castrol right from new, has
430,000k now. what got me started on 20-50 was when i was about 14 years old in 1971 i had an old honda 90 bike i bought from the neighbor
engine was toast. had it rebored and re-ringed it. i went to the cycle shop and asked for oil for it, the old guy said this is the oil u want
to use castrol 20-50 , best oil on the market. it was in the metal quart cans then. so since then i have always used castrol oil. plus
there was no other oils that had 20-50 wt.

Sae thirty with zddp , what I use in the Farmall c . I change it every spring regardless , to much condensation I feel especially over in the Governor
housing , remove valve cover off before start up, lube the valves and rockers with pump oil can . Potential could run 5 hours or 10 in a season ,I
change anyway .your choice on filter ,I do

I started out at 14 with a yellow 1969 trail 90. I bought it well used for 200.00 with money that I had saved from summer jobs. Ran that thing into the ground.Ran 20/20wt Phillips oil, because that's what my father used in his vehicles.Later,my brother and my dad each bought one.

If it doesn't burn oil I start with 10w30. If it smokes a little, 15w40. Those should cover almost all operating temps for most of the US and are going to be better oil than any that were available when the old girl was built.

Your results may vary.

interesting, i believe mine was a 1968 model. it was the street model or what ever they called them not a trail bike. think it was like 50.00 for the bike . remember that long timing chain on the side to run the valves . but i got it all together and running, even bought the manual for it. my buddie had the yamaha 100, i think it was , nice stylish bike they were. think his was around 68 or 69 model.

Rustred, was your buddy's a twin 100 Yamaha? That's what I had. Very nice little 2 cylinder, 2 cycle auto lube. I had a 2 piece bumper hitch, when cars had metal bumpers, that I used to haul that cycle everwhere. Great little bike.
