Farmall H Hydraulics

I have an H with front loader and 3pt. Lately the loader doesn't have much muscle and won't lift all the way up even empty.
When I drop the 3pt I can get another foot or so of lift which makes me think that the system needs more fluid.
Is there a danger in over filling the system?
Should the system be capped tight or have a breather?
The return is dumped back into the fill with a T.
Thanks.

The system must have a vent, but you can add fluid quart at a time until it works well. I broke the housing on a Lift-All in an M one time by overfilling it and not having a vented cap. It came without a vented cap, and worked well that way until I overfilled it and let a heavy load down with the cap on. The tank split toward the front and knocked the ears off the pressure plate. It also broke the crank in the rear main, locking up the engine.

I won't do that again.

If there are hoses on bothe ends of bothe cylinders on the loader and hitch, it is OK to be filled pretty much full. If not, a reserve tank can be put on the system If it was 2 gallon or so, and either parallel (level) with the existing reservoir, and vented at the same height as the existing cap, and "T"ed into the drain of the reservoir it would be fine.
