farmall H value?

what are the going rates for a farmall H? From non-running looks bad, non running looks good, runs good looks bad, looks and runs good?

forgot to add, pretend its a narrow front, with fenders, straight sheet metal, has not ran in 4 years, engine loose, tires okay, not sure of the year.

I agree with SD Pete The only way a H could go higher, is if it had new tires and documented rebuild paperwork. Then not realistically above 2500. Special family bidding wars excepted Jim

It greatly depends on what is wrong with the motor and what kind of shape the tires are in. Tires are a big deal. If they are good enough to last indefinitely then that is fine. If they need replaced now or will in the near future I deduct heavily for that. If the motor is just lightly stuck from sitting that is one thing. If it got parked because it had major mechanical issues that is quite another. If the tires are decent and it is just lightly stuck it might be worth $600 to $800. If the tires are shot and it has unknown mechanical issues it is worth scrap plus about $150 for the fenders. The trouble with these old H's is they are so common that even a really nice one struggles to be worth $2000. You can buy pretty decent running H's with serviceable tires for $1200 to $1500.

Was just at auction, saw three of them sell.

nf, loader, running, new tires, $950
nf, runnable, but would not fire, 50% tires, $350
nf, engine stuck, most perfect sheet you have ever seen, junk tires, $350

They won't sell for that low of a price on craigslist.

For these old machines, perhaps think about what value you have take from it. To be read, can it mow up your place for 5 years and you can work the heck out of it?

Then it is not what you can sell it for, its value is in the work you got from it.

I think a lot of people hem and haw about buying an H or M for cheap(less than $1,500). That is the starting point. If you can get it running good, then you put new or newer tires on it. Work it some more, maybe decide to upgrade some parts of it. More money. Next thing you know you have $3,000 + in it. Not a bad thing. You are getting work from it. If a person wants to just restore one and make a margin on it, that is a completely different story. Lots of guys prefer to do it themselves, than buy a restored one already.

My brother has an H that is earning its keep big time, does not matter if it is a $2,000 H. Does not matter if he goes to sell it, and everyone offers 1,200 max for it. He would dump it at $1,200 and be happy. The value is in using it, not selling it. Just my perception.

Curious how others view the M's and H's in this regard.

well, The farmer that has it wants 300 for it. The engine ran really good the last time he had it running (about 4 years ago) I tried turning it over by hand and it rolled over, the oil looks good, just dirty. the tires are older but they are matching and hold air. front tires are new. fenders are in good shape, hood and grill are perfect. It is still a 6 volt charging system. the only catch is that he said reverse doesn't work. I know these tractors are not worth much at all, however like everyone said, there are a ton of them around yet, so parts should be fairly reasonable I would think? Im not too scared to take the transmission apart myself. I have a feeling I will be sleeping with it when my wife sees me pulling in the driveway with it on the trailer lol.

I do not think you can go wrong for that, make sure and keep the fenders they are kind of hard to find.

I bought at auction a running H- decents fronts -mismatched but good rears -poor paint and showing a lot of wear on drawbar and pto shaft for $650 last Sat. tractor had been overhauled about 4-5yrs ago. kj
