I am into the engine on a 1943 Engine of a FArmall H.

The piston bearings have part number 355268 R1 and the pistons IH 4039. I have sent the head off for a valve job and am trying to get the pistons, rings, gaskets and bearings on order before Christmas break so my son, daughter and I can work on it over there school break. I have checked several places and all the kits advertise an overbore 3.4375". This is serial number 143XXX.

Block casting 6695-DE

Do I need to overbore the original engine or will these kits work for an original overhaul? I see no signs that this tractor has had any engine work done to it since the beginning of its time.

The engine has sleeves that when renewed can be purchased (here on YT) to increase the bore without machining. There are several options for kits (not including rod and main bearings due to the likely need for undersized inserts). They are accepted here on this forum, as good quality. Be sure to select the kit based on whether it is a distillate engine, or gasoline only engine. JIm

Thanks a ton. Just to make sure I am 100% certain how do I tell if it is Ditillate or gas only. It does have a second small fuel tank that hasnt been used for years and it appears has rusted through. I was not going to reuse it.

I believe I need these kits:

Item #: 130585 Basic Engine Overhaul Kit, Less Bearings, C152 Gas, Stepped Head Pistons
Item #: 106462 .002 Bearings Not STANDARD. Mine say .002
Item #: 106565 International Harvester / Farmall H Main Bearings - Standard - Set
Item #: 106661 International Harvester / Farmall H Cam Bearing Set

If I want to replace the whole ball of wax so to say

Item #: 106565 International Harvester / Farmall H Main Bearings - Standard - Set This actually might need to be Item #: 106571

For H, HV (From S#391358), I-4, O-4, OS-4, W-4 (From S#33340) with C152 Gas Engine. Reference ID: MS-302P-010

Part number 355268R1 didn't exist in 1943. That says your engine has been worked on.
Existing bearings that are .002 undersize also say the engine has been worked on.

So would you put the standard or undersized bearings back in. I do not want to take the crank to be machines if possible.

what comes out must go back in. there is no flip floppin on brgs. plus make sure u platigauge the old brgs. your taking out to see what clearance you have. then plastiguage the new ones.

and also unless u actually know them sleeves are worn past spec's i would be tearing it down first then inspecting sleeves and pistons as on these old engines for no actual work a person can get away with rings. way cheaper on the pocket book. look at the intake manifold thats a good indicaation if its a distallate. plus the head number.
