on my h tractor exhaust manifold there is a butterfly that has h on top and a c on the bottom what is this for and where should it be

I think you are describing a manifold heat control valve and the (H) would be the position when hot and the(C) would be the cold position. CENTAUR

thanks wasn't sure just got this tractor first time I seen this.

The hot setting would be for burning kerosene or distillate fuel and the cold setting is for gasoline.
