Hey guys, new member here again, thanks for being patient with us new guys asking these questions. On my C248 with 4" bore and IH 4009 Z pistons, I measured .100/.102 on top piston grove, all I found so far is new ring sets come with 3/32 or .093/.094 rings, would that much clearance cause trouble? I suppose my groves are worn. Thanks

this is the way it is... if you have over .002 side clearance with new rings your piston land are worn out. meaning stick a feeler guage
between the piston land and the ring. time for new pistons. i dont understand your measurements, with loose ring side clearaance working in
the land you will break a ring.

Yep time for New sleeves and pistons, I am
..economically minded.. might as well say cheap and
tight. But at $500 ..step head kit in link. why would you
go through all this and not have a good engine in the
end? Do not know exactly what you are doing maybe
you are trying to piece together one good one out of
several. I do not see how a piston that ran long enough
to get that much ring side clearance could come out of
a sleeve that does not have a big ridge at the top and
essentially to much wear for a re-ring job that will last.
Make sure the kit you are getting has the proper sized
piston pins, there are two different diameters.
