Farmall M Flywheel Removal

Workin'on a 1952 Farmall M with the 11" clutch.

Already got the whole darn thing split and the clutch off, but I can't see how to get the flywheel off. Took out the 4 bolts holding it on, and now I am stuck (that's where you guys come in

Pullin' it all apart to eventually hopefully put a repair sleeve in #2 cylinder.

There are dowel pins that are holding it for alignment you will have to pry the flywheel off of them or use a puller made from some material around there. Just make sure the feet are out from under it if it falls flywheel will be around 50 or so pounds. ouch LOL

i'd leave a couple bolts in but loose till you popped er loose. that flywheel is closer to 100 lbs.. you dont wanna drop that rascal, prolly cut your toes clean off. spray the hub up a litlle with pb blaster, put a small pry bar behind it, a little pressure then tap around the bolt hole area wih a ball peen hammer . should pop loose pretty easy, if you have an engine hoist, hook it up to one of the bolt hole that hold the clutch on, so you dont drop the flywheel.

Not to be a nuisance, but--I don't think it's necessary to remove the flywheel to repair a cylinder. More or less an overhaul--pull the head and pan, take piston out. It uses dry sleeves, so put another one in and put 'er back together.

Ya, already pulled all the sleeves. Need to bore #2 out, press in a repair sleeve to repair the crack in the block that allowed antifreeze in the crankcase, and then proceed in a normal reassembly.

Therefore, need the crank out to allow the machining/hot-tanking etc.

Probably more in-depth response than needed, but thought I would try to explain the situation in more detail.

Glenn is right, that flywheel has to weigh at least a 100 lbs if not more! Just about all all I could do to carry it
