farmall M has no spark

Got side tracked due to a massive gas leak in carb (out of vent above choke screen.) Determined that was due to poor float alignment and needle valvew not fully closing. Now back to trying to get her to spark. There are TWO condensers on the firing side of the tractor. One within the dist next to points which I would expect. The 2nd is on the POS terminal of the coil - and grounded to the coil bracket bolted to the tractor. Any idea if THIS condenser should be here and if so why? I get "light" on tester all the way to neg term on Coil - - but no spark from plugs when I turn her over. Have installed all new wires and new plugs, new coil. Would you say points and rotor is my next step? Any trick to installing either points to rotor a novice needs to know about?

First thing I would do is to make sure the points are gapped right. Bad gap or no gap weak to no spark.
New points and condensor probably couldn't hurt.
The part by the coil sounds like an ignition noise suppressor. Do you have a radio on the tractor?

Gap should be .020" on the points since your're getting voltage to the coil I would rub those points with some 320 wet or dry until shiny. Then see if it will start. If they're pitted I would replace them. Hal
