Farmall m live hy

Hey all! So I have been working on changing farmall m to live hydraulics. I had Super m parts tractor which I took engine mounted pump off of, and got front timing cover and plate from salvage yard. I decided to purchase battery box under the seat and move battery back since I had seat from super m. Then, I removed belt pulley assembly. This gave me enough room to mount a 14" wide by 10" tall by 10" deep hydraulic tank. I was thinking about using belly pump for a reservoir along with added tank for extra capacity. Belly pump already has 1" hole tapped for suction to pump. How do I plumb new tank with belly tank to work correctly? I thought about running hose from bottom of new tank to 3/4 oil fill pipe on belly pump and also adding a tee where I could return oil to. If I suck from the belly pump reservoir and return oil to this tee between the two tanks, am I right in thinking this will work correctly? I do plan in venting top tank. Thanks in advance for thought or ideas!

Sounds like a plan, but the two tank system to me is a overkill, do you need that much oil reservoir capacity. How did u get the 1 in hole in the bottom of belly tank, did u have to remove and tap it, or tap, and drill in place ?

Just use the belly pump, But completely gut all the old pump parts from it and ventilate it out the left side where the original return was located and bore some additional holes in the casting to allow the air to escape without blowing fluid out the side. And add a filter to the return line. Even with large capacity cylinders, fluid pumps in and fluid is returned.

It will work, kind of went overkill with this setup. One inch into and out of lower reservoir. Did send return line to top tank below fluid level. used top tank about half full and it was vented. 1/2 inch tee was used for venting the relief valve if it opened. Redesigned the set up some since the picture. Fluid and pump does stay a little cooler.

Simplest way to do it is to use gravity as your guide.

1. Suction out the bottom of the belly pump.
2. Line from drain of new tank to fill of belly pump.
3. Return to top of new tank.

Oil flows top to bottom.

HOWEVER, I agree with the others, using the belly pump is not necessary. Your new tank is 6 gallons. The belly pump is 6 QUARTS, so it's not really contributing much to the cause. Put 5 gallons in the new tank to allow for expansion and return oil, and call it good.

The hole on the bottom of the belly pump reservoir is only 1/2", so you will also be restricting on the suction side of the pump, where you can put a 1" bung in your new tank.

The 1" port was already tapped in the lower front end of the belly pump when I got it . To make a long story short, I bought this m, knowing it had a bad clutch. Since I already had a like new clutch from super m parts tractor, I thought I would use that. After swapping flywheels so clutch would fit, I put tractor back together. THEN , I tried to install original m belly pump and it wouldn't fit. Slightly larger super m flywheel won't allow m belly pump. So I installed super m pump housing. Thanks to all for your advice!
