Farmall m paint

I had a Farmall M SN FBK285634X1 brought to me today and am curious about the white paint on the bottom of the gas tank, lower hood and complete grill. Was this an IH thing or did someone repaint as such. Any help is appreciated.

there is absolutly not white paint on any farmall M from factory. everything is red except the rims. which were galvanized. even the fan belts had red spray on them. someone was copying the 450 series. but that is not factory.

That was a common paint scheme on tractors on our farm. The lower part of the gas tank below the seam, and below the ridge on the hood and grill. Dad had that exact scheme on the '51 M for many years. In 1964 our Super M-TA and '39 H were both repainted with just the lower part of the grill being white. I wet sanded and repainted the gas tank, hood and grill on our '54 Super H, with the same scheme as the SM-TA & H in about 1969. The '51 M has been repainted about 3-4 times since the scheme with the white, but someday I will tu-tone the grill. The guy that painted it the last time not only did a terrible job but was difficult to deal with and very very expensive. For what he charged you would expect to see NO runs or sags and orange peal.
The IH White demonstrator tractors are well documented, tu-tone M's and H's I personally find very attractive, and are only the work of the tractors owner or someone the owner hires to paint his tractor.
I worked at FARMALL in Material Scheduling from 1979 to 1981 and I ordered the paint for the 86-series and 3388,3588, & 3788. The 5x88 and 688's used the new E-coat paint system, somehow I never got involved with that. I only released paint from Moline Paint Mfg, Valspar, sprayed on the various conveyor lines, the 5 total in the plant. The E-COAT was a dip process. You would be surprised how many yellow tractors FARMALL shipped, and then the was a huge carrot farmer out in California who bought a batch of new 1066's or 1086's every 4-5 years he'd order 8 to 10 new tractors. Cabs were green, the tractors were orange, like a carrot!
