Farmall M Tires

Our antique pulling club allows 2 sizes up from original rear tires... What would be the maximum size for a 51 Farmall M?

12-38's were the original size on later M's, so you should be
able to go to 14.9's, 15.5's or even 16.9's I guess....but unless
you're really powered up, I believe 14.9's or 15.5's would be
big enough.

11.25x36 were the original size according to the
nebraska tests . lots of clubs won't allow 38's to
be used on a M . that's whats wrong with that way of
sizing tires for weight classes. if you have an older tractor you don't get larger tires . in a good club there are tire sizes
for weight pulled therefore it's fair for every
puller . all of the above is just another pullers opinion after all its your club and it doesn't want to be fair or does it ?

Good grief, any club that uses 1939 specs. for M Farmalls must still be pulling Fordsons and 10-20 McCormick-Deerings......on steel wheels.........

the next test is super m and the tires are 13x38 if you have any others post the site it would be great help to those later model M"s just before super M . here"s a club that doesn"t allow an increase in wheel diameter and I"m sure they aren"t alone http://simmonstractorclub.com/Rules.html

I have an original Farmall M, MD parts catalog. It is TC-28-A. Dated 8-15-45. 9.00x36 is listed, as well as 10x38, 11x38, 12x38, 9.00x40, and 10x40.

If it is listed in the parts book, it WAS available from the factory.

Thanks for the replies... My M currently has 14.9x38 rears. Most of the M's I pull with have either those or 15.5s.

I pull in the 5500 and 6500lb classes and at a recent event with a good clay track I got beat by a couple Farmall 400s with 16.9x38 tires.

So as a result I was thinking maybe my M would benefit from the 16.9s. It has had some motor work done and is fairly "stout"
