Farmall M Wide Front Value?

I have this Farmall M / 400 Wide Front I need to sell. Selling out all kinds of things, working on buying a Duramax, and there will be a monthly payment involved, so, I need to get my duckies in a row! ;)

You wise guys on here told me this front end was supposed to be on a 400, but would fit on an M. Is that true?

The front end is FLAWLESS, other than both the tie rods being trashed, and the RIMS being welded on. No cracks (that I can see?) dents, etc. Looks great!

What is it worth? $500 too much? Not enough?

What is the whole tractor worth? No sheet metal, no loader, stuck engine, bad tires, 1948 model.
Thanks! Bryce

If you were near me (northern MN) I sure would be interested in the loader, maybe the whole tractor. From what I've seen a wide front ready to bolt on would be worth $500 and less than that depending on how much fixing is needed. I paid $300 for one to put on a WD45 that needed rims and tie rods.

not trying to start a major discussion but have you ever noticed as far as work trucks go you see 3 Fords for every 1 other make? It's not because they are lower price cause they're not, It's because they are the best thing out there.

WOHA! What is with all the hate towards a Duramax?

Okay okay, keep something in mind folks.

My dad is the lead technician at a Chevy Dealer, and we are Chevy fans to say the least. Fords out sold 3 to 1?? I can B S on that all day, but even if they were, I would say that was because people kept having to replace them!!! :P

To the tractor though, I have 23 tractors. I had a nice M until it dropped the engine, and I found a way of getting that one back going, but I am keeping that cat in the bag until I have some pictures. I farm with the M, H, and Super C. I have all that I currently need for that. A HUGE backhoe with a loader, and a little Yanmar for the little things.

This tractor would cost me a lot of money, before it could make me money, to me that is. I do like it, thats why I bought it, but, I have many more, and there will be more in the future!

Right now, I would really like a K3500, with a 6 inch lift, tipped exaust, gooseneck, and some chrome! :)

Maybe where you live, but around here the Chevies outnumber the Fords by a wide margin. Even the Dodges outnumber the Fords.

That wide front might bring $500 if it was ready to bolt on and go. As it is, needing tierods and rims, About $300 should buy it.

In my neck of the woods tractor is worth 3 hundred and so is the front end. Ram sells more diesels around here then ford and bowties put together. Kent

Bryce, you don't need chrome to use it,and the 6" lift would make it unsuitable for towing.GM engineers spent more time making the truck safe at the correct height than any aftermarket lift kit company. You are a smart young guy who is very ambitious,so save your money.Be practical. Use your money for a home in the future. In fact unless you tow every day,get a gas engine;it will be cheaper to keep.I,too would like all the fancy stuff, but it does not do you any good.Be practical. I wish I had not spent my money so foolishly when I was young:life would be easier now.Mark

X2 Mark. Unfortunately, I've seen the commercial where the dad is saying "so you sold everything, bought a car and are going to drive across country?" Now is the time for Bryce to make a stupid purchase like the Duramax tricked out. I bet he'll work hard and recover from that decision. I have always wished I'd bought a Corvette when I was young and newly employed, but I was always too practical. But, Bryce, I'm comfortably retired now and have no money worries.

I would really like to know where you are getting this data.

See the 2015 totals in light truck sales for each below:

General Motors 2,151,574 (16% more than Ford if I did the math correctly)

Ford Motor Company 1,805,265

Dodge 1,719,410 (Only 5% less than Ford)

(quoted from post at 14:36:17 01/19/16) Enjoy the Duramax, they are good trucks, but dump the lift kit, nothing but trouble.

Could not agree more especially the front end parts. Been there done that and never again

Wide front if good condition including center pin and bushings, spindles and bushings and spindle bearings would probably be 800 to 1100 at some salvage yards without rims and more at a few. Look around and new tie rods and shipping probably around 250 or less. So even if you knock 300 off the front its still probably worth 500 or more to someone. Trouble is finding someone wanting it close or willing to pay shipping. Don't think there's as much demand for them as in past. Tractor with wide front probably won't bring much over what the wide front does. You could part and get more than the tractor as you described. Wide front frame saddle and steering arm like that brought 250 or a little more at a action recently.

I am in Sagle Idaho, very close to Canada.

Would sell you the whole thing right now! Make an offer.... I am thinking $1500 for all of it is fair. Have had some interest in the loader at 500, guy was supposed to come look at it today, but bailed due to weather.

Where are you located? I would be interested in the rear wheels, the radiator and some other parts if you are near Illinois.

Ya, lot of people see that as a lot of fuss... Buddy has 2 with the NICE $1200 lifts, they are solid, work great even when towing. Nice to have one around here, makes getting around in the deep snow easier, and you don't risk banging your truck up in the woods as much.

When I can afford to put one under it, I won't be doing a cheap one, it will be a nice, ProTech probably...

Duramax's are a good truck!! No one will ever tell me otherwise! ;)

Since your talkin fords Chevys and dodges, before they got the cummins engine you couldn't hardly give a dodge pickup away around here. That's why they now say a dodge pickup is just a shipping crate for a cummins engine.

You can lift that body two feet and the ground clearance of the frame and chassis doesn't increase 1 inch. It's the distance of the bottoms of your differentials to earth, that allows you to travel in deeper mud and snow. You only to life as much as needed to clear the tires.

non-professional farmall parts guy I deal with always asks $500 for a widefront, H,M,C.
He won't give much and always sells them sooner or later.

Buy whatever truck you like. Brand doesn't matter, they are pretty much all the same today.
I like tall trucks too, and have owned a bunch lifted some.
Just from experience, a 2-4 inch lift usually works better on a driving/working truck.
Don't forget in hard winter you will be swapping your big, wide mud tires for skinnies to deal with snow. Get a truck too high on winter skinnies looks kinda silly.

ps if you are going to run big tires, remember that when you are ordering your truck. Pay close attention to the rear gearing you order. Big tires and tall highway gearing = dog
