I am looking at a Farmall M that has no serial no. plate and you can't see any number on the side of the engine. The owner thought it was a super m cuz that's what the decal on the hood says. I can tell it's not a super m.the casting date on the rear axles ends with a T. What year does T stand for? Thanks for any help.

Y is 53.Count backwards from there.1947. Your tractor ins not a Super. Just a regular old 'non' super M.The easiest/best way to tell super from 'non' super is the brakes. There are other ways, but you need to be very familiar with both to tell. A super will have later style disk brakes. The housiing will have 6(I think) bolts holding it on.A 'non'super will have either band or 'the 'optional' Lambert disk brake. It's houseing will have 3 bolts secureing.

This casting is 1950. There should be a cast # on r. side of motor above dist. Example, 6-25-T is June 25 1950. These dates are on all castings of tractor. Buck

Does the engine block above the oil filter housing have raised cast numbers and letters 6722DJ or another number? If it has 6722DJ it should have a serial number. If you look on forward from the block cast number you should see another T date code. Or if the tractor was built in early 50 it could have a S date code. Or if built in first quarter 51 it could have a U or W date code.

If I had a dollar for every H or M that I saw with an incorrect super decal I could take a group of ten people to a very nice restaurant.

My grandpa's tractor is one of them. IH had a program to give a free paint job with an engine overhaul. They put the SM carburetor, sleeves and pistons in it and asked if he wanted the SM stickers on it when they painted it, and he did. This is what he told me, and he was not a Farmall enthusiast, just an old farmer getting is tractor rebuilt.

So when I repaint it, and it needs paint now, I'm probably going to paint it like they painted it for him, with SM decals, but it is an M.

Anybody else recall this program? maybe it was just one dealer.

I have an M that has the Super M decal from the dealer rebuild. Slick advertising in its day. If the tractor has brake band type brakes, it is a "regular M". If it has disc type brakes, it is a Super.
