Hey yall! I'm working on a 1947 Farmall MD and I had to replace the rocker arm shaft. I need to adjust the clearance on the Gas Cycle Valve lobes and was wondering... how do you adjust the clearances. My I.T. Manual didn't cover that part. Could someone explain Please? Thanks and God Bless!

the small gas valves dont have an adjustment like the diesel valves. they are just opened with a lever, but there is major adjusting in the linkages you have to go through.you need a manual to follow the steps.

They need to have some clearance when they are closed, and when open, you should be able to push the valves open a little more by pushing on the button. In other words, they are not bottomed out when open. Adjust on the linkage if necessary.

It manual covers the adjustments,it's in the section pertaining to the cross over linkage adjustments on gasoline side. Covers all the parts behind carb ect. Just did this the other day on my smd. Also you can set your intake and exhaust valves cold and adjust if needed once warm. Set intake at 19thds and exhaust at 20thds. Worked great and didn't need to re adjust. Good luck jim.
