i found out that my md is made out of 2 tractors it has a md block and a sm bell houseing and trans. would it be very hard to put a ta housing in and make it apper to be a super md ta for my own collection.

T/A parts won't work in SM clutch housings below serial # 60001. Clutch housings and transmission housings are made different on SMTA tractors.

Sounds like you want to build a fake SMTAD and then lie to yourself or others that it is genuine. Why bother? You will always know it is a fraud. Where is the satisfaction?

Most buyers will have it figured out in several minutes. I'm talking about the collector willing to pay big bucks for a legitimate tractor. You won't get premium bucks if you want to sell it.

But anyway, what you are suggesting is to put your MD engine in a 400, use a SMTAD hood and grill, use your gas tank, get a SM oil reservoir, and change the rear frame lid to a SMTA unit or M, SM with 400 forks. There is still lots of other stuff to do like live hydraulic pump, various brackets, and many details not worth mentioning.

I like changing my tractors but everything is added on or buried so deep it is not apparent. That would include Fast Hitches on tractors that never had them, gear ratios changes that were unavailable from the factory, or IH attachments in the wrong place. It is all reversible. And I have no intention of selling any of them.

Wouldn't you feel better if you built a tractor that allowed you to sleep well at night?

if you are thinking of using a 400 tractor and making it a SMTAD there are a lot of things that are different. Just for one the clutch pedal is longer on the 400. And the casting #'s are different. All it takes is for you to miss one item and you are going to look foolish. Just my thought.

IMHO - If you want to do this to make the tractor more useful for your own purposes... go for it. If you ever choose to sell it and are honest about the changes or the fact that it is not original, thats fine too.

The only problem would be if you are doing this to try to increase the value if you sell it for something that it is not.

all i am saying is that i would built a SMDTA because it is already a put together tractor. im not trying to pass it off as a ture smdta. not like this guys that have a Super H TA and think it is real and worth big bucks.
