Farmall SC wiring

I bought a Farmall SC with a belly mower on it. Previous owner always pulled the negative ground clamp off the battery. To prevent it from draining. Its still a 6 volt system, negative ground. I am in the process of replacing the old frayed wires on the generator and the system. Is their a wiring diagram that would show me how and where everything is hooked up? So I can double check that things are right. I probally should go out and get a new multi-meter first, and see if the generator is charging. Before I get too in depth. As now would be the time to re-wire it all for 12 volt if the generator is bad. So Im looking for help to find a wiring diagram. Also I thought 6 volt systems where positive ground. Can they be negative ground as well? As mine appears to be negative ground. What is the normal voltage a generator should put out? Thanks

More than likely it is supposed to be positive ground and has had the battery hooked up backwards. Might even be the reason for not charging, and running the battery down. If you change to 12 volt it will then be negative ground. Nothing will matter except the amp gage will need to be wires switched on it.

It came from the factory positive ground, but if properly configured and polarized it will work equally well as negative ground.

Regulator problems seem more common than generator problems, and reliable regulators seem to be difficult to find.

If it were mine, while I was rewiring it would change to 12 volts with a 3 wire alternator. With alternator, unless specially modified, would require negative ground.

Is their something wrong with the 10SI single wire alternators? Or does the 10SI 3 wire work better with the old wires for the voltage regulator?

there is nothing wrong with the single wire alternators except that you probably won't charge at idle...it needs some throttle to excite. I have 2 and 1/4 throttle and above charges. I have an SC and it came with an alternator and the bracketing is cobbled together...so I wonder if you can buy the bracketing kit for an SC. Other than that, 12V is the way to go unless you are a purist
