Hi all I am restoring a Farmall super c and I have gotten the tractor torn down and am on to paint stripping is there any good techniques that I should know of paint stripping I'm using a wire wheel on a grinder. Also being 14 I am on a budget and a buddy has a pint booth so should I see if I can use that or should I rattle can the tractor its not gonna be a perfect show tractor I work it and it doesn't sit around and do nothing and help is appreciated thanks

When it comes to the paint spend the money and go to the dealership-IH 2150 red. It will still be shiny when you drive your grandkids around on it. The farm store paint starts to chalk off in a year. If you need practice you can come and strip the cheep stuff from mine so I can paint it with the 2150

lol thanks what do you use to strip paint
So i got an advantage since I work at an autobody shop. This is what we use. It's aggressive stuff. It smells and burns the skin if u get it on you. U can't buy it in a store but maybe ask a autobody shop if they'll sell it to you. This gallon cost $85

Respect the ambition, comment on rattle can. You’re doing a lot of work on surface prep. And surface preparations is 90 percent of a good paint job. I would suggest you not use a rattle can ,use the paint booth,. Practice on something that’s not the tractor. Example. Wear e your personal protection equipment it a must do! No cheap mask ,Buy the best paint !

Get a #40 flap wheel for your grinder. The wire wheel needs to be a twisted cup type. After all that prep work don't use alkyd enamel. it doesn't shine or level or resist fade or hold up like 2K urethane. The 2K urethane is 2X what the cheap stuff costs but 1/5 what the really good stuff costs.

For low-budget, simple, effective, you can't beat a wire wheel on an angle grinder for the heavy steel parts. Wear a dust mask, and ear protection, so you don't have to spend the next three days picking the black boogers out of your nose, and your ears don't ring all night. I've cleaned up countless pieces of equipment and rims with just a couple of different wire wheels and a 4-1/2" angle grinder. Picked more than my fair share of black boogers too...

Chemical strippers are messy. Sandblasting requires more tools and equipment, and is messy in a different way. Wire wheeling creates dust, which worst case you can suck up with a vacuum.
