Farmall Super C seat

My husband bought a 1951 Super C as his winter project. We are confused about why the seat on it is different than the seats on all the pictures of Super C's we find on the Internet. Did somebody just switch to a seat from some other kind of tractor, or did the C have this type seat at one time?

Cliff doesn't have a lot of knowledge about the Super C tractors.

That is either a modified original, or something from the wrong model. The Super C only used the plain pan seat with no back rest.

Thanks. We figured somebody must have put the wrong seat on it, since all the Google images showed the pan seat with no back.

FYI..... That's not a Super C. It's a straight C. Look at the clutch pedal, it's not curved.

IH sold that seat, it had a back cushion at one time. Came out in the late fifties or early sixties. They were a accessory item for C, SC and several more tractors that could be purchased at a dealer. Also one of the seats listed for a 460 or 560 tractors ETC.

Not so sure about the clutch pedal, hard to tell from that angle. Looks like too much space under the fuel tank for a C.

one sure way to tell c or sc look at the breaks; supers had disk breaks the C had band type breaks

That is actually a nicer seat! made by I.H. used on 450-560's.
I believe it just bolted to the base same as the original style.
If he is going to spend lot of seat time this MAY be more comfortable. If he is making her his show project then better stick with the original silver pan style. Tony

Picture, Wish that price was still good. You could also get a part number that included the suspension with seat.

IH did offer a flip-back seat for the SC, as an option. That allowed the seat to be flipped over, backwards, to keep the dew and rain off the the seating surface. Since that option cost a couple more dollars most dealers did not buy them. Today, they are rare for the SC. That option did not include a back support ring. It would appear that someone has added that ring by just welding it to the bottom of the seat. That ring, at one time, had a support pad attached.
With just the one photo, it's difficult to determine if you have a C or a SC. With what I see my guess is it's a C.

The flip back seat was rare? Looks like the seat isn't bolted down all the way in the toolbox in front. Be careful!

Donna my 53 and my 54 SC both have that same seat and it isn't original but both were dealer installed when the engines were overhauled in the early 60's . I also have a few that have the original pan and I have to say I would sacrifice originality for comfort as the old pan leave a a lot to be desired.
