Farmall Super H

I just bought a 1953 Super H. Serial # on the frame of SH 7456 J. I was reading another post and I looked at all the numbers on the frame and are all around 4-16-Y. I was looking on the engine block and found FBH 228011 x1 and 7-16-P. Is the correct engine for this tractor or did someone before me switch blocks? Any help you can give would be great!

Thanks

The block may be from a 46 H not your SH.
The only grief is if the SH you have is equipped with a live Hydro pump, and the gears are not the later updated pump gears. If it is a stage 1 SH (I think it is) the battery will be under the fuel tank, and it will have a belly pump (LiftAll) hydraulic. If so it won't make much difference. A bit of power (unless it has SH pistons, cam. and Carb.
I hope this helps, JimN

That is a huge bummer, I thought I was buying a true Super H. I was kinda of wondering what kind of other parts I have on it. I have # 6513 D on the carb. Is that for a H or Super H? Is there any way to tell if there are dome top pistons in the tractor without pulling the head?? Where will I find the 152 or 164 stamp at?

IH did not put the displacement notation on the blocks until the Super series, except for possibly some replacement blocks after the Super series arrived. From the other posts you have a C152, thus there will be no notation unless it is a later replacement block. The number, if any, is cast in at the left rear of the block. You might be able to shine a light in the spark plug holes and see the pistons.

The motor serial number would have been around 8650 or so. Just because it has had a motor change doesn"t mean its not a good tractor unless you"re looking at a show quality restoration. Would still be a very usable and handy tractor to have. Just my thoughts,

I was planning on pulling with it and thought I would have an advantage in the antique stock class with the 164 engine over those with an 152 engine. I will just have to pull it and see what happens. Thanks for all your help so far.

The block may be bored out to Super H specs. No way to tell unless you pull the head and measure.

Hopefully they didn't just swap whole engines, and transferred the timing gears and front cover from the original Super H engine.

Unless you have a lighted borescope to look down into the spark plug holes, you'll have to pull the head to see what kind of pistons it has, too.

proper placement of the weight will mean alot more on the track than a few extra cubes. with the larger "M" type carb you may notice a bit of an advantage. what state do you live in? some of the pulls around here limit the antique classes to 1950 or older { at least they used to when I showed up with a super H }
GOOD LUCK PULLING

Tell me more about weight and balance on a Super H. Any other tips would be greatly appreciated. In antique here you can pull 1958 or earlier

best results I"ve had were getting into the 4000 weight class, running about 8 psi tire pressure with an old 45* angle tire tread over 1/2 wore out. draw bar height to the max 19 1/2" with extension plate off the back. Any weight that you can move from the front to the back I did. Still got whooped by a JD "A". Still had fun though ...
