Farmall super m

A few parts ace common to both, but they are not even close to compatible. One is for disk brake SM, and the other is Drum. Purchasing the wrong one is a waste of money unless it is very cheap, and you can use it in a trade for the right one. Jim

My apologies, but Jim’s advice is generally pretty solid, but this time he may have things confused a little. I think he may have been thinking about an M&W live PTO clutch set up, I am only saying this because the fact that a Super M has disc brakes does not have any bearing on how a 9 speed fits this tractor. Now I am not an expert on the 9 speeds but I think there is a possibility that one for a regular M would fit in a Super. Everything for the 9 speed goes in the transmission section below the gas tank. The differential section that contains the different parts for the disc brakes is basically right below the gear shift. The shift fork slides under the cover move the shift motion forward to the gears in the transmission. Hopefully someone like D Slater will chime in for a more direct answer. By the way good luck finding a 9 speed, and just so you know to install one requires a split and basically a complete tear down of the transmission section.

I was working on the differential when I should have been working in the transmission. SO I won't charge for the appendix I removed, and lets schedule that kidney transplant. Jim

Yes if you use the M 9 speed counter shaft and gears along with the reverse idler , M gears that slide on top shaft and the 9 speed input shaft. On the M&W the 4th and fifth slider is the only M&W gear on the top shaft. Bottom shaft has a M&W 4th and 5th, constant mesh gears and shifting sleeve. second through fourth speeds will be different from a SM though and reverse just a little. First and reverse sliding gear is the only one of the range gears the same between a M and SM. Input shafts can be enter changed but you need the M&W input. Ones M&W made for a SM had a 4th speed slower than the factory speed. if I remember correct the top gear was a tooth bigger and bottom a tooth smaller than the factory ones.

I bought an M-W live pto from an M to put on my SuperM. The seller said it would bolt right on. NOT! However,I was able to get enough of the right parts to make it work.

OHHH that's why they always ask, right before they put you out, what are u going to have dobe today!!! You made me chuckle Jim!!
