Farmall Super MD injector pump

I have a Super MD that was built for pulling but then had a new injector pump installed. I need to turn the fuel up on the new pump but don't know how. Can someone tell me what I need to do?

Need the info on the pump. Make, model number etc. especially if it is an aftermarket pump. Is it mechanical or electric?

It is an IH pump just like the one that came on all Super MD's in 1952. If you need some numbers, I will get them for you tomorrow.

There is a picture of the adjustments some pages back. The mechanism is under the side plate and you will see a vertical arm with a set screw limiting it's maximum rear ward movement. We call that the smoke screw. That is the only real adjustment to give it more fuel without replacing major components. IH always gave what they called high idle gap for a basic adjustment. What that means is with engine running at full throttle no load that is how large that gap is from the set screw to the arm. To give it more fuel under full load you just screw it out so gap is larger. Kind of limited how much it will give it. There are several other adjustments on the leaf spring overload mechanism that requires more knowledge of how it works so best left alone unless you can observe it while running on a dynamometer. Fuel pressure is important to have it up well into normal part of gauge.

I sure would like to find those pictures of adjustments, but I have looked and do not see them. If someone knows where to find them that would be great.

It's been forty five years since i did any playing with them old pumps. and to make one really run takes more then pulling the cover and opening up the middle screw . First ya need more pressure from the primary pump , then ya need the gov. fly weights from a TD 6 or a TD 9 track loader pump as they respond faster the plunger from a T D 14 and to get more RPM you need to grind the pump housing for the gov arm to move feather. Then ya need and OLD and i mean OLD I H pump man that knew what he was doing to make this all happen . I am sorry to say that Old Cal has long pasts on to the big pump room in the sky and even though i know of one other guy that knows old I H pumps he is not as good as old Cal was . Yes i once had a really strong running Farmall 450 D in todays world of pulling it would not stand a chance but it would clear the area of skeeters .

I was referring to the possibility that he had replaced the original with an electric aftermarket to boost the pressure or volume. I am well aware that the original is 100% mechanical.

I have a good twin plunger pump off a UD554, if you put one of those plungers in it, that'll give ya some fuel.
