Buddy found a small farmall crawler tractor I think a TD 4 it a gas over deisel looks to be the same as a M motor size.
Question is the block ist cracked would the M or MD block be the same ? everything else is free but the motor.

Smallest IHC gas over diesel crawler was the TD6. Sounds like that's what you are looking at.

The Farmall MD block is the same as the TD6. You may however need to swap the front cover, starter, etc. to adapt it to the crawler.

An M (gas) tractor block is completely different internally - it cannot be used to rebuild your diesel.

But just to clarify- Couldn't you just replace the MD with the gas M engine if the MD is not salvageable- resulting in a T6 rather than a TD6? But you'd probably have to do some adapting as to the throttle controls, choke, etc. (or find a salvage T6 to get parts from).

That's right. You could drop an M tractor engine into a TD6 and make into a T6. May still however have (minor) issues with details like the starter, engine front cover, governor/choke linkages, etc.

A T6 crawler engine would be a direct replacement (except of course for the governor/choke connections). Problem here is to find a T6 with a good engine - IHC did not build very many of 'em(!)

Just for the record the only Farmall tractors were row crop models. The crawlers are just International.

The T4, T5, and TD5 were Canadian built using British built engines. In the US that size crawler was the T340 with a USA built C135 engine or TD340 with a British built diesel. All of them are smaller than the T(D)6 crawlers.
