My company buys a fair amount of items from them. I think they enjoy the commercial accounts. Kind of like McMaster-Carr.

It's been a long time since I did a walk-in to the store. Usually I use online.
I liked the stores though.

I think we still have one. Don't know as I use ab fastener supply. Mile and a half from my door to theirs.

Also I rent their 1 acre lot behind building so if I have less than 5 dollar purchase they just give it to me.

allthe stores within 150 miles from me are gone their is a place you can pick things out of a locker 40 miles from me but no more walking in and buying stuff off the shelf

There are two in my area. I can usually do better online, but I've been in one of the stores and was able to solve a problem quickly.

We have 4 in the area, but we also have some major shipyards and multiple large military bases so that kind of makes sense. There are also 3 or 4 mom and pop hardware only company's that service the Gov, its contractors and the SY's.

That said we still mostly order for Mc-Carr online and have it the next day most times.

It's been a long time since I did a walk-in to the store. Usually I use online.
I liked the stores though.

Based in Winona Mn we had and still have plenty of stores. With that said their walk in policy has changed. In construction we have plenty of need for their products but I have not been in a Fastenal for years. A lot of the stores are open early for freight and route
trucks and when the trucks are out the desk man is on the road to pan handle. Many times I’ve gone to their door and found it locked with a sign on the door and phone number.

I understand the fact that the intent that they want to get away from Joe Average coming in to get a cotter on for grandma’s bicycle, but now when we need a 3/4” annular cutter or 50 5/8” grade 8 nuts we are forced to look elsewhere.

Fastenal has become fairly useless in Central New York. There is a "building" with their name on it in Utica, about 15 minutes from the farm, but since the pandemic; they have become closed to walk-ins.

Hiawatha Fasteners in Syracuse was the best choice for walk-in needs; and it was handy when I was commuting to Syracuse for work.

There is also a Grainger in Utica that 'sometimes' has fasteners.

Of all of the places, Hiawatha is the best, has the best stock on the shelves (for instance, I could walk in the store and get the dreaded 7/16" carriage bolts for our Hesston Haybine guards) and easiest to work with. Hands down.

Sadly, I don't think they are a national franchise. Just so happened to be a great, independent, fastener store.

I wouldn't worry about that. There are so many positive feedback loops built into investment banking nowadays, that the DJIA will continue to the stratosphere as the rest of the economy goes to the bottom of the well.

Your stock will go up... and up.... and up... and up, until you try to sell it...

In the name of being solution-oriented, not just grousing about the good old days... when the local Fastenal clammed up, and I stopped commuting to Syracuse where there was a great private fastener place, I've found that our local equipment dealer has a supply of fasteners that beats the pants off of Tractor Supply and rivals a dedicated fastener place. After reading the article in Double07's response, concerning Fastenal's marketing pivot to "embedded" accounts, I would almost wonder if Fastenal has an embedded account at our local equipment dealer.
