Faulty Vented Gas Caps

If you have a gas cap that is supposed to be vented, Would a sign of a faulty gas cap have a lot of pressure when you open the tank? If it is indeed a bad cap, could it make a cheaper aftermarket tank leak.

Well, mine is bad. Should I just run with the gas cap loose so it doesn't build pressure or create a vacuum till I get a new one?

You can, but one thing you don't want to do is allow the gas to slosh around and out of the tank and start a fire. Personally. I'd head to Napa and get a new cap.
