Feederhouse Chain Replacement

So far in my short farming career I have not owned a combine long enough to have to replace the feederhouse chain. But I was looking at mine the other day and wondering, How do you know when to change it? I know most other chains I pull them off and check them out that way, or if the adjusters are out of travel. But I'm not pulling that thing out of there so I was wondering how others gauge when to replace it.

when the links are worn really bad, and also the rollers, I promise you dont want to run it through the cylinder, it's a mess to get out.... I know

What we go by at the shop is if you can fit a one inch ruler between the rollers it is about time to replace.
