Have a 40 something 2n still 6volt with a jungle gym FEL, the original Ford pump is getting pretty weak and havent been able to find the rebuild parts for it so I think it"s time to put on a new pump. Does anyone know what GPM would be a close replacement size. You have helped me keep this one running for a few years, thanks for all of the help

All the ones I have seen and replaced where all in the 8-10 GPM range. Much more then that and you can ge a loader that moves way to fast and can cause a flip or roll over problem

I've got a partial owners manual for a Wagner WF3 loader and the pump shown in there rates the pump as "13.2 gpm min. @ 2000 rpm @ 2000 psi max." Don't know if the Ford FEL's pump was the same, but I suspect they were similar. Hope that helps.

(quoted from post at 10:30:02 02/04/11) Thanks for the reply, I was thinking about 11 gpm so I wasn't far off.

Just do the math:

1) Compute the total displacement of the cylinders in cubic inches
2) Divide the displacement by 231 to get gallons needed to extend cylinders.
3) Multiply that by 60 and divide by desired full height lift time in seconds to get pump size required in GPM.

Example: two 3 x 24 cylinders

  • [*:308558d3ef] CID = 2 * 24 * 3.14 * (1.5 * 1.5) = 340
    [*:308558d3ef] G = 340 / 231 = 1.47
    [*:308558d3ef] GPM for 10 second lift time = 1.47 * 60 / 10 = 8.82

Thanks TOH why didnt I think of that, been out of the business I guess too long. Everyone has been great help. As always this group come to the rescue.
