Fenceline Vine

I got a vine growing in a fenceline,it has deep purple leaves in clusters of 5 and the leaves are kinda barbed.It has a fruit in cluster of 10- 20.They look like a blueberry and are the size of a blueberry and they seem to have a big pit unless its the fruit and is just hard at this point.The berrys are attached to a bright red stem.Does anyone know what this is ?Located in WC MN.

Not at home to do a leaf-and-stem comparison with my own wild vines, but could it be either wild grape or Virginia creeper? Both have seeds such as you describe.

Take a sample to your local county agent, they've always been able to identify what ever samples I bring them.

It's not what is known as English Ivy but I'm sure it is what we called Ivy as a child in central Minnesota. My parents ordered a ton of them from the local nursery and planted two between each set of posts on our chain link fence. They always referred to it as Ivy and I'm sure it was sold to them under that name by the nursery. Where the soil was good they grew quite thick and gave good screening and in the fall the leaves turned a very nice deep mottled red.
