Ferg 3x12 plow

A couple questions;

My 64 4000 has the round weights that mount to the loops in the rear rim. I guessing something in the 100lb range ea. I plan to fill the tire with straight water (only for plowing as I do not want the compaction otherwise) an get around 350 lbs of additional weight (per tire). All this weight will be on the drives. Should I put any up front? Would it do any good?

I have the tires currently set to my row spacing for cultivation. I need to decrease it to match the plow. Can I get away with only moving the furrow side and not screw with moving them both? Would this throw anything off?

Once done with the ground work, I plan to put it back the way it is now. No ballast and 36" rows.

For setting up for 3-12 plow. You should measure 23 1/2 inch from the center of your drawbar to the inside of your right rear tire. The left side don't matter. The ballast will help. Ken Sweet

Seems we were always setting the tires in or out.
If you just change the right side the tire will be on backward an you wont get good traction. Also use a good jack and set your tires before you fill them with water.

Be carefu and get someone to help out.

No front weight needed unless the front gets a little light while plowing.If it gets light then the weight transfer will not work as it should.

He should have the power adjust wheels so that would not be a consideration. The big thing, he is from Ohio and as we all know Ohio has below freezing temps and water freezes so that will be his biggest problem

Leroy;

I thought about the power adjust wheels later. By the time they came out with power adjust wheels we had enuf Fords and Fergusons on the place we didnt have to set them in or out anymore.
