Ferguson 880

So I have a Ferguson 880 8bottom plough that I would like someone?s knowledge on. So I?ve seen the 880 in the 8 bottom versions and I?ve seen pictures of them in 6 bottom version. On mine the other day I noticed there was a section that had a plate on each side and instead of hose it had a steal tube, is that to shorten or extend these ploughs by 2 bottoms? And also was it a factory option to have both 8 and 6 bottom versions of the 880.

When I first started teaching Ag-Mechanics in the middle 1970's The Junior class set up a couple of 880 6 bottom plows each fall, no 8 bottom plows around here.

There are 4 bottom 880s also. I have a 4 bottom spring trip and a 4+1 bottom hydraulic trip. They also built a "toggle trip" version that wasn't auto reset, but could be converted on of the auto resets easily.

I'm thinking that was an 880 that a neighbor bought new. It was a 5 bottom hydraulic reset. He had an older 5 bottom Massey that wasn't auto reset. I bought that one from him to use with my 4040 Deere after he bought the new one.

Dealer I worked for could get either basic 4 or basic six bottom frames, with one or two bottom options on each frame. There were four trip options, shear bolt, hydraulic cylinder, spring hinge trip, and later spring auto reset. Could be pull type, three point semi mount with or without front lift furrow wheel.
