ferguson cooling problem

Hello YT community! i have a 1954 ferguson TO-30 and i was driving it and smoke started coming out from the front of the motor so i popped the hood and coolant was spraying out of the overflow i think maybe the thermostat is stuck closed. i'm wondering if that is the problem

Could have just gotten low on coolant.

Try refilling it with water, look for leaks, grass clogged radiator, loose belt, give it a test run under load. If the thermostat is bad it will overheat quickly. If it does, replace the thermostat, try it again. If it still overheats, look for evidence of a leaking head gasket. Symptoms are missing, steam out the exhaust, water condensing in the crankcase, water in a cylinder.

Once the heating is solved, refill with 50% water/antifreeze.

Was it smoke or water spray? When you fill the radiator you leave it just slightly above the fins so there is room for expansion.
