Need a nut to set the tapered roller bearing free play/preload on my Ferguson TO30 steering column. I have an order for other items ready to go at McMaster and would prefer to add it to that order rather than pay another $10-15 for shipping elsewhere. The photos show the diameter measures 0.7865, almost exactly 20mm. The other photo shows 14 threads in 0.48", about 29tpi, or 1.15mm. Could this be a M20-1.0 thread?

A look at the TO30 parts book shows 13/16"-28TPI nuts were used. This might not be exactly like yours but 13/16- 28 looks like it might be the answer. Do you have a thread pitch gauge to correctly check the thread pitch? I have seen many counted wrong when trying to count number to length, without a gauge.

Boy, do I feel stupid. There it is in the parts book, 13/16-28, plain as day. The caliper was over the threads but you can see that they are flattened at the peaks so the 0.787 measurement didn't reflect the actual major diameter, 13/16 (0.813). The pitch measurement of 29tpi is within normal error range of the real 28. Thanks all for the help.
