Ferguson Tractor

I'm trying to figure out what vintage Furguson I have. My nameplate says MADE IN ENGLAND BY THE STANDARD MOTOR COMPANY. LTD. COVENTRY, ENGLAND and at the bottom it states other patents pending for MASSEY-FREGUSON (GREAT BRITIAN) LIMITED FE-35.
The serial number is pretty much gone all I can make out is 59M ... any advice? I was told the diesel has a timing belt and not chain drive like the perkins 4 cylinder

I would say it's an FE35. The FE means it was made in the UK. If it has a 4 cylinder it's a Standard Motors diesel. The Perkins is a 3 cylinder. Dave

just got back on - yeah, it has a 4 cyl and it's a hard starter. how long should I warm up the glow plugs?

Hi there,
Yes it sounds like it"s a FE35, often called the grey and gold (actually the gold is more of a copper colour) and it should <a href="http://www.vintagetractorengineer.com/blog/2007/07/12/fe-35-golden-grey/">look like this one if it is restored</a>. The engine has a timing chain and it"s quite a difficult procedure to get the timing set up. FE35"s were manufactured between 1957 and 1959, after that they were re-badged the MF35 and took on the red and grey colour scheme even though the MF35 is exactly the same mechanically as the FE35. "FE" means Ferguson England and the 4 cylinder diesel engine (23C)was manufactured by the Standard Motor Company.
