Fertilizer auger

I got tired of tubes rusting out. I put new flighting in one not long ago, so I put it in new six inch, thick walled PVC. Wasn't cheap. It cost me $164 for one length of pipe and the T, but it should last me the rest of my days if I'm lucky.

I've got one I should haul to an auction. I switched to liquid 4 years ago. It's even got a SS hex center tube with plastic segments on for the auger. I think I replaced the segments once. Had to replace the hyd motor in a hurry once and it cost me a small fortune!

The metal tube would have been just as expensive. I put a PVC tube on a cross auger in the early 80s. It has moved hundreds of tons of fertilizer on 3 different planters, had to finally put new flighting in last yearas it was mostly gone and a new motor as the shaft and seal were leaking and it was a corroded mess. Pvc is very quite no rattling.

I finished planting corn yesterday. It worked flawlessly.
