Fertilizer for pumpkins?

Hi guys. This is my first year trying a pumpkin patch. So far, the plants look pretty healthy and have TONS of flowers on them. From a distance, the patch looks orange first thing in the morning. I planted them in rows, and I'm just wondering if it would help at all to topdress them with something. A few of the plants have a bit of a yellow tint to them, but most are a nice dark green. Would some nitrogen help them? What do pumpkins respond the best to? Any advice is appreciated.

It's tough to say what they may need without the results of a soil sample. Have a look at this page.

The section about fertilizer is down a ways, and gives pretty good guidelines for fertility. Pumpkins do like lots of fertilizer. The old farmer trick is to put a shovel full of composted manure down when you plant each seed.

In Central Indiana between Rte 63&41 north of Rockville I saw a man plowing under a 20 acre field of turnips one fall. He said that was the best fertilizer he had found for raising pumpkins. & he didn't care how many turnips his neighbor ate off his patch. LOL
